Environmental responsibility as part of our everyday work

Environmental responsibility is reflected in the design of our services, our procurement and our everyday working methods. We aim to use energy, water, materials and chemicals efficiently, prevent waste generation, and extend the service life of machinery, equipment, tools, properties and textiles. At the same time, we develop service solutions that also help our customers reduce the environmental impacts of their operations.

Our environmental work is guided by our environmental policy, sustainability programmes and company-specific environmental targets. Our operations are based on the principle of continual improvement in accordance with the ISO 14001 environmental management system, which enables us to improve our environmental performance systematically and with a long-term approach.

We reduce our climate impacts

Climate change mitigation is one of the most important areas of our environmental responsibility.

We have set science-based climate targets (Science Based Targets initiative, pending validation). Our target is to reduce emissions from our own operations and purchased energy by 44.1%, and the emissions intensity of logistics and business travel by 66.3% by 2035. In addition, our target is for our key suppliers to set their own science-based climate targets by 2030.

In the long term, our target is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2050 and progress towards net zero. Emissions reduction measures focus particularly on procurement, energy, vehicles, machinery, transport and mobility.

Customers receive information on the carbon footprint of the services they purchase

We help our customers understand the climate impacts of the services they purchase. We have developed service-specific carbon footprint calculations that enable us to calculate emissions from cleaning, property and laundry services by customer or site. Depending on the service, the calculation takes into account, for example, the chemicals, materials, machinery and equipment used, as well as transport, vehicles and commuting. Emissions data is used to identify the most significant emission sources of the service and to develop lower-emission service solutions together with the customer.

We reduce the use of chemicals

The safe and environmentally responsible use of chemicals is an essential part of the quality of our services. We select cleaning agents and detergents based on their intended use and their environmental, health and safety impacts. In this way, we promote safe working practices and reduce the environmental impacts of our operations. We favour ecolabelled products and methods that reduce the need for chemicals.

We reduce chemical use through correct dosing, fit-for-purpose working methods, microfibre technology, purified-water solutions, dosing equipment, and smart control systems for machinery and equipment. We also use new technologies and methods that enable effective cleaning with lower consumption of chemicals, water and energy. Our employees are instructed in the correct dosing, use, storage and safe handling of products.

Environmentally responsible hotel cleaning

We provide environmentally responsible hotel cleaning, as our hotel cleaning concept has been awarded the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. In Nordic Swan Ecolabelled hotel cleaning, environmental responsibility is reflected in every stage of the work. Strict environmental requirements guide the use of chemicals, material choices, working methods and waste management. This reduces the consumption of natural resources and environmental impacts throughout the service life cycle while maintaining a high level of service quality and safety. We also make extensive use of ecolabelled cleaning agents in our other cleaning services and are increasing their share across all our services.

We promote resource efficiency and the circular economy

We promote resource efficiency and the circular economy by favouring durable, long-lasting solutions, extending product life through maintenance, and increasing the use of recycled and bio-based materials and reusable products. At the same time, we reduce waste generation and the consumption of single-use products.

We consider the environment in procurement and the supply chain

A significant share of our environmental impacts arises from the products, materials, machinery, equipment, vehicles and services we procure. We therefore consider the environmental impacts and life cycle of products and services in procurement. We require our key suppliers to operate responsibly and with respect for the environment, and we encourage them to reduce their own emissions and set climate targets.

We help our customers achieve their environmental targets

Our greatest opportunities to make an impact often arise through cooperation with our customers. We design services in accordance with the customer’s operating environment, targets and environmental requirements. We identify practical areas for improvement related, for example, to the use of energy and water, waste sorting, material consumption, chemicals, and working and service methods. Service-specific carbon footprint calculations help our customers understand the climate impacts of services and identify lower-emission alternatives.

Together towards a more responsible everyday life

Environmental responsibility is built through daily actions and continual improvement. We work closely with our customers, employees, suppliers and other partners to identify increasingly sustainable practices and solutions. We monitor progress towards our targets and report annually on the progress of our environmental work in the Group Sustainability Report.
