Five Examples of SOL’s Climate Action on World Environment Day

World Environment Day, celebrated on 5 June, is a reminder that climate action is built on everyday choices. At SOL, this means concrete actions and long-term commitment. Here are five examples of how we are working to reduce our climate impact today.

1. SOL is committed to science-based climate targets

SOL is committed to setting science-based climate targets during 2026. We are currently finalizing the measures needed to achieve our emissions reductions. Through SBTi, we can ensure that our climate actions support the goals of the Paris Agreement and drive emissions reductions in the right direction.

In 2025, SOL conducted its first Group-wide emissions inventory in accordance with the GHG Protocol. This has provided a stronger foundation for planning, implementing and monitoring our climate action.

2. Making emissions visible to our customers

SOL has developed a service-specific carbon footprint calculation that enables us to calculate the emissions generated by cleaning, facility and laundry services on a customer- or site-specific basis in Finland. By making the climate impact of our services visible, we can work more systematically to reduce emissions and better support our customers in achieving their sustainability goals.

3. Eco-labelled cleaning is part of everyday life at SOL

SOL was the first company in Finland to receive the Nordic Swan Ecolabel for hotel cleaning services. We have provided Nordic Swan Ecolabelled hotel cleaning services for eight (vuodesta 2018 eli eight?) years and continuously work to strengthen environmental responsibility across our other cleaning services as well.

We use 100% Nordic Swan Ecolabelled cleaning products in hotel maintenance cleaning and 90% eco-labelled cleaning products in other maintenance cleaning services, excluding the food industry. We also continuously reduce the use of chemicals and develop our working methods to minimize their environmental impact.

4. Using water and materials more wisely

Together with our customers, SOL develops water-efficient practices that help reduce water consumption in everyday operations. In practice, this includes checking water fixtures, adjusting water flow and favoring working methods that reduce the need for water and chemicals.

5. Extending the life of textiles through repair

Extending the life of textiles is one practical way to reduce environmental impact. Last year, SOL Pesulat repaired 3,707 textile items. These included everyday clothing, formalwear, workwear and other textiles, with repairs such as seam repairs, patching and zipper replacements helping to keep them in use.

Repair and alteration services are a practical way to keep textiles in circulation for longer and reduce the need for new products. We also aim to reduce single-use practices in our laundry processes: products used in washing are not simply used once and discarded, but cleaned and reused multiple times. Extending the life of textiles is at the heart of our laundry operations.
